Steps in our lives. . .

I think the steps start on our opening appearance to this world
Hopefully parents cultivate and nurture the work it takes to be able to move to those early years and the “next steps” . . . walking, talking, reading, making decisions  . . .
Then we reach a point when we are more in control of what it takes to again move to the next step . . . setting our goals, finding our passions, picking out colleges,  and doing what we need to do for our goals to become realities
Then it’s the first job . . . the job that may just be the first on the path to the ultimate goal . . . working hard always with our eye on the next step
Finally, we see a child in our life that we love so much moving to the next step . . .  the step that is one away from the ultimate goal that was set so many years earlier . . . and that my friends is priceless!

  1. I don't think I appreciated these steps when my kids were growing up - I guess I was consumed with getting them to that next step. But now as I watch my granddaughters and each step that they take, I find such joy and yes, it is priceless. I now wish it wouldn't go quite so fast. Great slice!

  2. It's a wonderful journey that we undertake. I've loved all the steps along the way. And what fun to see our children moving toward their ultimate goal. Thanks for writing about it so beautifully!

  3. I think of all the stepping, mis-stepping, backward stepping, and two at a time stepping that all eventually get us eventually to the next step. I think of moments of being stuck on a step and moments of falling down several steps. I think, though, that your climb is so positive, so motivating, so uplifting. I think of the power of Langston Hughes' words in "Mother to Son".

Wow, your words took me a lot of places and helped me see that the focus should be on that next step.

    Thanks.

  4. Love your thinking about the next steps. So true, always looking ahead to that next step. I think Maya said it best with the two steps back, side steps, a step ahead. Eventually we all make it to that next step.

You have me wondering who you are thinking about when writing this . . .
