WFSN . . .Going Live

Each morning at school we begin our day with a live broadcast . . . aka WFSN.  The news team is comprised of groups of 5-7 5th grade students.  The jobs include, 2 anchors, a camera person, the director, an announcer, music person and the checker. The students come to school about 30 minutes early to practice his/her job so we are ready to go live at 9:15.    I have to be honest, the time before we go live is by far my favorite time of the day.  In that very short period of time . . . I see students becoming confident speakers, shy students taking risks as well as students working cooperatively together as a team.  In that short period of time . . .  the students and I have conversations that are fun and lighthearted.  Not only do I learn things about them, but I share bits of my life as well.  In that short period  of time. . . I bond with them and I believe it’s that short period of time that they remember for a very long time!

  1. How true! We had a news time too...and the kids learned so much. I loved seeing the shy ones take that risk and then become more confident. The time right before the broadcast is like you say....so much going on, but all fitting together because all working together to make it work. It was remarkable seeing who would pull through to save the day if there was a crisis. Great post...brought back fun memories. Jackie http://familytrove.blogspot.com/

  2. What fun this must be for the students and for you to be able to bond with them and help to make it a memorable moment for them. A great experience to help them to work together to make something happen.

  3. I love to hear all the banter before the news. It gives the kids a chance to relax and get ready for their spotlight moment. Thanks for hosting the news and giving kids this great opportunity!
